MicroTurn D is Denitool's range of small boring bars with indexable inserts for internal turning (boring) of small holes. Denitool is DENI AG, Veltheim, Switzerland, with its North American headquarters Denitool Inc., Raleigh NC, which publishes the inch catalog. All bars use the 95° SCLD style and one insert size, the 80° rhombic insert CD 0401 (CDGT 0401.. and CDGW 0401..). Minimum bore diameter DMIN is 4.8 mm, 5.8 mm or 6.8 mm (.189", .228", .268"), depending on the bar. Maximum boring depth is 16 to 36 mm (.630" to 1.417").

The range has 54 bars:

- 18 cylindrical bars with 4, 5 or 6 mm shanks. Each comes in steel, steel with internal coolant or carbide with internal coolant, and in right-hand or left-hand.
- 18 stepped bars with an 8 mm shank and a 4, 5 or 6 mm neck, in the same versions.
- 18 inch stepped bars with a 5/16" shank, in the same versions.

For solid (monobloc) micro tools that work in bores from ⌀ 2.8 mm (.110"), see MicroTurn A/S: https://www.denitool.com/md/en/microturn-a-s.md

What the page says about the range:
- Economical boring of holes from ⌀ 4.8 mm (.189"), using precision inserts and precision holders.
- The fine cut keeps turning very stable under different operating conditions.
- CDGT 0401.. inserts make chip control easy. In small bores, success depends on producing very small chips.

## Designation and abbreviations

Example: **E0408H SCLDR-04**. The full key is at https://www.denitool.com/md/en/boring-bar-designation.md

| Part | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| First letter | S = steel shank, no coolant hole. A = steel shank with internal coolant. E = carbide shank with internal coolant. |
| 04 / 05 / 06 | Shank diameter in mm on cylindrical bars |
| 0408 / 0508 / 0608 | Stepped bar: nominal neck diameter 4/5/6 mm, then shank diameter 8 mm (the catalog lists a 4.2 mm neck on S0408H and A0408H) |
| 0405" / 0505" / 0605" | Inch stepped bar: nominal neck diameter 4/5/6 mm (catalog: .165" on S0405H" and A0405H"), then shank diameter 5/16" (0.313", 7.94 mm). The shank digits count sixteenths of an inch. |
| E / F / G / H | Length letter. The nominal functional length is E 70 mm, F 80 mm, G 95 mm, H 100 mm. E05F is an exception at 85 mm, see the table. |
| S C L D | Screw clamping, C insert (80° rhombus), L tool style (KAPR 95°), D (15° insert clearance) |
| R / L | Right-hand or left-hand tool |
| -04 | Insert size 04 (CD 0401..) |

| Abbreviation | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| DMIN | Minimum bore diameter the bar can enter |
| CLMBD | Maximum boring depth at DMIN. On stepped bars this is also the neck length. |
| DCON | Shank (connection) diameter |
| LF | Functional length. On MicroTurn D bars it equals the overall length. |
| WF | Functional width: the distance from the shank axis to the cutting corner |
| γ | Rake angle of the insert seat: 5.5° (DMIN 4.8), 4° (DMIN 5.8), 3° (DMIN 6.8) |
| h | Width across the two parallel clamping flats on stepped bars: 7 mm (0.273" on the inch 5/16" bars) |
| KAPR | Tool cutting edge angle, measured from the feed direction |

Carbide shanks damp vibration much better than hardened steel shanks, which gives better surface quality and longer tool life. The E bars reach 24/30/36 mm boring depth (6× the 4/5/6 mm shank or neck diameter), the steel bars 16/20/24 mm (4×). The coolant channel of the A and E bars is aimed directly at the insert. Shank tolerance is h6 on carbide shanks and g7 on steel shanks.

The cylindrical bars have a plain round shank with no clamping flat. To hold them in 10, 16 or 20 mm bores (or 3/8", 5/8" or 3/4" bores), use the reduction bushings listed below.

## 95° SCLD stepped boring bars, metric shank ⌀ 8 mm

![Tool drawing, MicroTurn D stepped boring bar SCLD, right-hand](https://www.denitool.com/files/GTC/product_family_drawings/MTDISCLDS.png)

The drawing shows a right-hand stepped bar with a reduced neck and an 8 mm shank that has two parallel clamping flats (h = 7 mm). Values are in mm, with inches in brackets. The neck diameter is 4, 5 or 6 mm, as coded in the designation. Exception: the catalog lists 4.2 mm for the steel bars S0408H and A0408H. The neck length equals CLMBD.

## Cutting data (starting values from the Denitool catalog)

Feed f is in mm/rev (ipr in brackets). Cutting speed vc is in m/min (sfm in brackets), taken from the metric and U.S. catalog sheets. The feed depends on the stability of the tool and the workpiece. An empty cell means the catalog gives no value.

## How to find and order

Search the public WooCommerce Store API. Metric program (Swiss shop):

```
curl -s "https://ch.denitool.com/wp-json/wc/store/v1/products?search=SCLD&per_page=100"
```

This returns the 54 MicroTurn D bars plus 9 SynTool shank tips (designations starting with `C0`, e.g. `C0416 SCLDR-04`, see https://www.denitool.com/md/en/syntool.md). Inch program (U.S. shop, Denitool Inc.):

```
curl -s "https://store.denitool.com/wp-json/wc/store/v1/products?search=SCLD&per_page=100"
```

Other working searches:
- a single bar: `search=E04F%20SCLDR-04`
- the inch stepped bars of one size: `search=0405H`
- inserts for this family: `search=CDGT%200401` or `search=CDGW`
- one insert in all grades: `search=CDGT%20040102%20FN`
- reduction bushings: `search=D%201004`

In the U.S. shop, the inch sign in product names comes back as an HTML entity (`”` or `″`), e.g. `E0405H” SCLDR-04`. The Swiss shop uses the character `”`. Each product JSON has a `permalink` to the shop page, with the live price and stock.
